I have two dogs. Does training them both cost more?
If you’d like to have a private training session, there is no extra cost for having more than one dog! Our packages are priced according to the time we spend working with you. Of course you may need more time if you have two dogs with different issues.
Do you guarantee your dog training?
K9 Vision guarantees that your dog has an understanding of the skills he has been taught, and can demonstrate those skills. We guarantee extensive support and follow-up if you continue to have problems, through email, video conferencing or additional private one-on-one lessons. We consistently see remarkable improvement in the dogs we train because our approach to training is as a team effort between you, your dog and us. Our clients make deliberate decisions about their dogs’ care and training. They do so with the understanding that their dedication to a resolution is the key element to a successful outcome. Our goal is to create an improved relationship with your pet that doesn’t end after your dog leaves our care.
Do you train and work with children?
Unfortunately, due to insurance/safety reasons the actual training is left to the adults. As a parent, I understand the concerns that come with raising dogs and children together. As a result of my own parenting experience and observations throughout the years, I see it as far more beneficial for children to learn from their parents. They tend to take the lesson more seriously and parents can attach consequences to their success or failure that we as instructors cannot. Dog training is not a casual endeavor and it’s not a video game. It requires appropriate management, thoughtful planning and achievable, measurable goals.
Do you offer private home lesson? Can a dog trainer or behavior consultant come to my house?
We do offer private home training lessons. Home lessons are available in individual lessons or as packages. If you have a dog behavioral problem such as fear, anxiety, aggression, resource guarding or other problem behavior, your trainer will make an initial appointment to conduct a full behavioral consultation. After the initial consultation your trainer will be in a better position to advise you on the program and approach needed and how long it will take to reach your goals.
Why don’t you always start your training with treats?
There is nothing wrong with giving your dog treats! That's part of the fun of having a dog-we encourage paying your dog for a job well done. But in a pack of wild dogs, food is brought to the alpha dog. So if you tell your dog, "do something" as an alpha would, but then give him food (treat), you would begin to weaken your influence as a pack leader. Dogs want to live in harmony with alpha so, instead of treats, our method focuses heavily on positive influence, free time, and play (socialization). So much so, that we praise the dog for every attempt to do the right thing, regardless if there was an correction or not.
Does your method use positive reinforcement?
Yes, we always follow every attempt to do the right thing with praise. ALWAYS. Your dog then starts to understand the behaviors that earn him your positive attention and which behaviors result in a correction. Because of this, most dogs will work hard to earn your approval and avoid your consequences. This results in praising the dog very often and minimal corrections. If you are confident that you will never be comfortable correcting undesired/unsafe behaviors in a dog. You probably should not own a dog.
